XPO, a leading provider of freight transportation services, has received the 2022 “Longevity in Objective CO2 Plan” award of the Voluntary Commitments for the Environment (EVE) Programme. The award was presented to the company at EVE’s Meeting for Eco-responsible Transport and Logistics and attests that XPO is a freight transport pioneer in combating climate change. The annual event mobilises transport and logistics professionals in advancing the ecological transition of the sector.

The EVE Programme is supported by ADEME, Eco CO2 and the sector’s professional organisations (AUTF, CGF, FNTR, FNTV, OTRE, Union TLF). Its role is to support transport and logistics companies in reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and other air pollutants. Each year, the EVE meeting is an occasion to recognize companies that show leadership in improving the environmental impact of their business operations, especially through the development of innovative solutions.

Bruno Kloeckner, XPO’s managing director in France, said: “We are delighted to receive this honor, which is a first-time recognition of our commitment to more sustainable road transport. We have been adhering to the French Objective CO2 Charter for 15 years and, importantly, we are making steady progress in reducing environmental impact. Our recent agreement to invest in the purchase of 100 electric trucks is concrete proof of our commitment.”

In addition to investing in non-diesel fleet to meet impending environmental requirements in France, XPO trains its drivers in eco-driving techniques and trains its transport operations in the use and maintenance of alternative-fuel vehicles. The company also works closely with its customers to understand their sustainability goals and suggest ways to move towards those objectives together.

XPO first signed the French Objective CO2 Charter in 2008 and has renewed it every three years since then. When signing the Charter in 2022, XPO proposed an action plan to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of its operations by 5.33% by 2024, from a 2021 baseline. The plan, which has been validated by the programme backers, encompasses a total of 12 actions in the areas of Vehicles, Fuel, Drivers and Network Flow.
