XPO operates a new multimodal route between Santander and Liverpool, increasing freight capacity for customers by 25%
XPO, a leading provider of innovative and sustainable transport and logistics solutions in Europe, has expanded its multimodal services with the opening of a new route between Santander and Liverpool. The combination of road and sea transport in this new corridor provides a 25% increase in freight capacity for customers.
The company currently operates two weekly departures from the Port of Santander to the Port of Liverpool, offering its customers alternative and more sustainable transport solutions while maintaining operational excellence. The expansion of multimodal solutions is in line with XPO's sustainability strategy, as this route will save more than 2,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per trip per year. The land route between Santander and Liverpool requires trucks to cover more that 1,800 kilometers by road.
XPO provides a door-to-door multimodal transport solution as well as value-added services such as customs clearance. Once the goods arrive at the Port of Liverpool, XPO´s UK team manages the final delivery by road. The fleet used by XPO on this new route is fully equipped with GPS to ensure real-time traceability throughout the journey, confirmation of the arrival of the goods at each port and final delivery through the Drive XPO system.
Massimo Marsili, managing director - Southern Europe and Morocco, XPO Logistics, said: "Our new multimodal transport solution between Santander and Liverpool reflects our strong commitment to provide our customers with more freight capacity while keeping sustainability and innovation at the forefront. Reducing the carbon footprint of our daily operations is in the roadmap for both our customers and XPO, and multimodal transportation is an efficient alternative to the road to help achieve this goal".
The companies that XPO serves are increasingly looking for alternative transport and logistics solutions that meet their sustainability goals while still being competitive economically. This route between the Port of Santander and the Port of Liverpool is one of the new multimodal corridors that XPO has recently launched, connecting the Iberian Peninsula with France, Germany and the Benelux countries. Specifically, XPO operates multimodal routes between Barcelona - Bettembourg (Luxembourg); Barcelona - Duisburg (Germany); Perpignan - Valenton (south of Paris); Le Boulou - Calais (France) and Novara (Italy) - Duisburg (Germany).
