Mobilizes LTL and last mile networks, flexible delivery options and alternative-fuel vehicles ahead of Black Friday

XPO Logistics, a leading provider of freight transportation services, has announced a major expansion of its last mile service in France as the peak holiday season gets underway. The company is offering complete geographic coverage for deliveries to homes and businesses through its national less-than-truckload (LTL) distribution network and its last mile hubs. XPO is the largest LTL provider in France.

XPO’s last mile business specializes in the delivery of large household appliances, furniture, building materials and other heavy or bulky products that require two-person delivery teams. Services are managed within XPO’s technology ecosystem, with digital scheduling controlled by the consumer. Delivery can be made outside or inside the home, with customizable options for installation, assembly and old product removal.

Jean-Emmanuel Mongnot, managing director – France, XPO Logistics, said, "By expanding our last mile coverage on a national scale, we can reach more delivery points at a time when B2C and B2B sales are at a peak. We’re making the most efficient use of our resources in France to provide critical support for our fast-growing e-commerce customers. We’re also testing ecologically virtuous transport modes, with the goal of helping shippers achieve greener supply chains.”

XPO is committed to reducing the environmental impact of transport operations over time. The company’s last mile activities, in particular, lend themselves to innovative solutions in certain urban settings. XPO is currently testing electric vehicles in low-emission zones, where noise reduction is also beneficial. In the company’s French LTL network, an estimated 20% of kilometers are covered by natural gas-powered vehicles as an alternative to diesel.

In October, XPO announced that it added a fully electric truck to its French fleet — a 16-tonne commercial vehicle used to transport palletized freight from Jonage to the Lyon area. In Europe overall, more than 90% of XPO’s transport fleet complies with Euro VI standards.
