XPO, a leading provider of innovative transport and logistics solutions in Europe, has expanded its presence in Portugal with the opening of a new transport and distribution centre in the city of Pombal. The company is investing in serving the growing customer demand for its services in Southern Europe, including multimodal solutions that connect Spain and Portugal with the rest of Europe.

The inauguration of the Pombal site located between Lisbon and Porto is another strategic step forwards for XPO in Portugal. The new facilities bring the total area in Portugal to more than 12,500 square metres and 70 docks, and are expected to create around 100 direct jobs, as well as making more resources available to customers. The site will manage pallet transport services, last mile deliveries of bulky products, night deliveries and a comprehensive logistics service.

Massimo Marsili, XPO’s managing director – Southern Europe and Morocco, commented: “We are delighted to begin operating our new transport and distribution centre in Portugal, a country that is essential to the growth of our business in the Iberian Peninsula. This gives our Portuguese customers direct connectivity with Europe and Morocco, and reinforces our focus on high-value-added services. We are in a strong position to drive sustained volume growth in the region.”

XPO expects the site to serve customers in the textile, food and beverage, automotive and industrial sectors, among others. In addition to tailoring solutions for individual customers and sectors, the company has developed differentiated technological tools that provide full traceability of goods in transit as a completely digitized process.

XPO is a leading supply chain innovator in Europe, offering full truckload, pallet transport, truck brokerage, managed transport, last mile and freight forwarding. The company customises its solutions for specific needs across a range of consumer, trade and industrial sectors and world-class events
