XPO Logistics Opens Fourth Transport and Distribution Site in Galicia
The 5,000-square-meter platform with 39 docks is located near A Coruña in the Culleredo Transport Logistics Center
XPO Logistics, a leading provider of freight transportation services, has announced the opening of a new transport and last-mile distribution hub at the Culleredo Transport Logistics Center, located 10 kilometers from the center of A Coruña. The 5,000-square-meter platform with 39 docks is the company's fourth site in Galicia, including locations in Orense, Vigo and Porriño (Pontevedra), and is supported by another center in Lugo.
XPO will operate full-truckload, less-than-truckload (LTL) and groupage services from the A Coruña site, along with home deliveries of bulky products and night deliveries. The new platform will provide service to customers requiring wide distribution, especially those in the retail, food, consumer and industrial sectors. XPO will employ more than 50 people at the site between direct and indirect jobs, half of which are newly created.
Massimo Marsili, managing director – Southern Europe and Morocco, XPO Logistics, said, "We’re very pleased to open our fourth site in Galicia. The opening of this facility will allow us to get closer to production centers in the province of A Coruña and further increase our ability to serve our customers in the Iberian Peninsula, a key market where we continue to grow in presence, capacity and quality of service.”
In addition to last mile, night delivery will be a main focus at the facility. Distribution will be carried out to approximately 100 delivery points in the province along with locations in the rest of Spain and a significant volume of merchandise from a prominent textile company. The platform in A Coruña will also manage returns operations and is expected to handle roughly 1,000 pallets per day.
With the new site, XPO now has approximately 13,800 square meters of transport and distribution surface area in Galicia and employs around 150 people (direct and indirect jobs) in the region. XPO's turnover in the northwest has increased by more than 40% in the last five years.
Throughout Spain, XPO’s comprehensive network of transport and distribution sites totals 224,000 square meters of surface area and 987 docks distributed among 67 platforms. Throughout 2020 and 2021, in order to offer better service and greater flexibility to customers, XPO's network has grown by 226 docks (+29%) thanks to the opening of eight new sites in Benavente (Zamora), Castellbisbal (Barcelona), Heras (Cantabria), Irún (Guipúzcoa), Lugo, San Fernando de Henares (Madrid), Valencia and Vitoria.
