XPO Logistics, a leading provider of freight transportation services, has been awarded class A status as an Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) by the General Directorate of Customs of Morocco.

AEO class A status is granted to companies that demonstrate superior transparency, financial solidity and security. The designation establishes an advantageous relationship with Morocco's customs administration to facilitate the passage of goods across borders and accelerate document management.

XPO utilizes various routes to transport goods between the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco. The company was the transport leader through the Strait of Gibraltar in 2021, with around 20,000 trips completed.

Massimo Marsili, managing director – Southern Europe and Morocco, XPO Logistics, said, “We are proud to have received the highest designation as an Authorized Economic Operator from the Moroccan Customs General Directorate. Our company has been connecting the Iberian Peninsula with Morocco for years through transport services that deliver substantial added value. Class A certification enables us to provide our customers with additional advantages at the borders”.

XPO’s range of fleet options includes the use of mega-trucks to transport raw materials between Spain and North Africa — a service particularly suited for shippers in the industrial and automotive sectors, among others. XPO began pioneering mega-trucks in 2019 with the launch of its first route connecting the north of Spain and Morocco. The company has a fleet of 25 mega-trucks in Spain, with each vehicle capable of transporting 65% more cargo per trip versus traditional trucks, reducing the carbon footprint by an estimated 15% to 20%.

XPO has been operating in Morocco since 2011, with offices in Tangier and Kenitra. The company serves large national and European customers in diverse sectors, such as metallurgical, automotive and textile.
