Syngenta France partners with XPO Logistics to decarbonise agricultural transport with HVO-powered deliveries
The national pilot project is expected to avoid around 460 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, delivering up to 90% lower emissions compared with conventional diesel deliveries.
Syngenta France, a major player in sustainable agriculture and XPO Logistics, a leading provider of innovative and sustainable end-to-end supply chain solutions across Europe, have launched a national pilot project using HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil) fuelled trucks for customer deliveries. HVO is a renewable fuel that can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared with diesel.
For more than 20 years, Syngenta France has worked alongside farmers, cooperatives and distributors to support more climate-resilient and efficient agricultural production.
The partnership, rolled out across France from 2025, reflects the two companies' shared ambition to accelerate logistics decarbonisation with practical, immediately available solutions. Based on expected annual transport volumes, the use of HVO is expected to help Syngenta France avoid around 460 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, equivalent to 230 return flights between Paris and New York.
Anne Azam, President and CEO of Syngenta France, said: "Syngenta France aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 38% in 2030 compared to 2022. While transport represents a relatively low percentage of our total carbon footprint in France (10%), this should not prevent us from taking action wherever possible. We also need these small victories. Climate change will not wait."
XPO Logistics draws on its entire logistics ecosystem – transport, warehouses, multimodal solutions – to support its customers in making concrete reductions in their carbon footprint. The company already operates a diversified energy mix across its European operations, including gas, electric and biofuel-powered vehicles. HVO strengthens this approach by offering a high-performance, drop-in alternative fuel that can be deployed at scale without operational disruption.
Frédéric Aziron, Director of Palletised Distribution and Last Mile – France, XPO Logistics, commented: "We partner with our customers to reduce emissions while maintaining high standards of service and operational reliability. HVO provides Syngenta France with a ready-now solution for more sustainable transport and integrates naturally into our broader energy mix. The right approach is never one-size-fits-all: it must reflect the needs and realities of each sector."
The pilot will continue throughout 2026 and may be extended to additional Syngenta France logistics flows, as well as to other XPO Logistics customers.
