“Nature Network” expands to new shared-user site, combining environmental impact, employee wellbeing and sustainable partnerships

XPO Logistics, a leading provider of innovative and sustainable end-to-end logistics solutions across Europe, is expanding its Nature Network project to its shared-user warehouse in Leicester. The site offers consolidated storage and logistics services for Samsung Climate Solutions and other customers. It has now become the latest location to benefit from XPO Logistics’ biodiversity and employee wellbeing programme.

The Nature Network project, launched earlier this year at the company´s UK headquarters in Crick, Northamptonshire, is designed to improve biodiversity around XPO Logistics sites across the UK and Ireland. It aligns with the company’s broader ESG strategy, which includes reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 30% in the UK and Ireland by 2030 and achieving net zero across all scopes by 2050. As part of this roadmap, XPO Logistics is investing in nature-based solutions that enhance the local environment, support communities and create a better workplace for its people.

At the Leicester site, around one acre of land is being transformed to support native wildlife. Tree and shrub species have been planted alongside wildflowers to attract pollinators and link the site to surrounding green areas. Bird and bat boxes, as well as raised planters, have been installed across the depot, with a particular focus on outdoor break areas allowing colleagues to relax in a more natural and restorative space during their working day.

To further extend the project’s social impact, XPO Logistics has sourced the bird and bat boxes from The Emily Jordan Foundation, a charity supporting people with learning disabilities. Proceeds from the initiative will benefit the Riding for the Disabled Association.

This biodiversity initiative reflects the strong alignment between XPO Logistics and Samsung Climate Solutions on environmental responsibility and the creation of long-term value. As a key customer at the Leicester site, Samsung’s support for the Nature Network underscores a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation across the supply chain. The collaboration demonstrates how logistics partnerships can contribute to broader ESG goals, creating greener, healthier environments for people and the planet.

Looking ahead, XPO Logistics also plans to install beehives at Leicester, following the successful model already in place at Crick. Any honey produced would be made available for employees.

Dan Myers, Managing Director – UK and Ireland, XPO Logistics, said: “We are excited to roll out the next phase of our Nature Network project to our Leicester warehouse. The results we have already seen at Crick are encouraging, and we are keen to see these biodiversity measures flourish at our other sites around the UK and Ireland. The benefits to both the wildlife and our colleagues cannot be underestimated, and we are happy to provide more dedicated nature-filled spaces for people to relax during their breaks.”
