The alliance between the two companies aims to accelerate the energy transition with renewable fuels, helping XPO's customers meet their sustainability goals and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90%

XPO, a leading provider of innovative and sustainable transport and logistics solutions in Europe, has announced today the launch of LESS, its Low Emissions Sustainable Solution, in Spain in partnership with Repsol.

LESS® is an innovative decarbonisation initiative developed by XPO to offer its road transport customers a faster transition to the use of a renewable fuel, also known as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a fuel capable of reducing CO2 emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional fuels and without the need to modify the current vehicle fleet.

To strengthen the LESS® solution in Spain, XPO has signed a partnership agreement for this sustainable project with Repsol, which will provide more than 1 million liters of renewable fuel by 2023. From now on, any XPO customer will be able to benefit from the LESS® solution by using this advanced biofuel, which will be supplied to XPO's own network of fueling stations. These fueling stations that serve more than 2,500 vehicles that regularly operate in Spain for XPO for full-truckload, less-than-truckload, pallet distribution and last mile services, among others.

With the launch of LESS®, XPO once again demonstrates the implementation of concrete initiatives for the decarbonisation of transport and reinforces its commitment to help its customers achieve their carbon footprint reduction targets.

Massimo Marsili, managing director - Southern Europe and Morocco, XPO Logistics, said: "We are proud to announce the launch of LESS® in Spain and to do so in partnership with Repsol, a global multi-energy company and one of our key partners in the Iberian Peninsula, with whom we share a commitment to a low-emission future. With XPO's LESS® solution, we continue to innovate to meet the needs of our customers, who are increasingly seeking solutions that support their sustainability goals. Thanks to LESS®, they will have certificates that confirm and guarantee the level of reduction of their CO2 emissions".

For Estíbaliz Pombo, senior manager of mobility energy products at Repsol, "This alliance with XPO strengthens Repsol's commitment to renewable fuels, one of the main axes to becoming a zero net emissions company by 2050. Renewable fuels are already a solution that immediately reduces CO2 emissions from transportation. They are compatible with the current fleets and existing distribution and refueling infrastructures without the need for any modifications. These fuels broaden the range of sustainable mobility technologies and help users choose the one that best meets their needs”.

With a strong commitment to sustainability, XPO offers multimodal transportation solutions that combine road, rail and sea, as well as more efficient vehicle solutions such as the duo-trailer and mega-truck. The company's most recently opened facilities in Madrid, Barcelona and Alicante have been awarded Leed Gold certification, confirming the optimal energy consumption of each center. In addition, all XPO centers in Spain use 100% renewable energy.
