XPO Logistics, a leading provider of freight transportation services, has announced the addition of a new duotrailer to its fleet in the Iberian Peninsula. XPO utilises the duotrailer to provide dedicated full truckload (FTL) service for the Stellantis Group between factories in Zaragoza and Villaverde (Madrid). Stellantis is a global automotive group of 16 brands with a large manufacturing presence in Spain.

A duotrailer uses a single tractor unit to tow two standard semi-trailers. The combined vehicle has a length of 31.75 metres and is widely considered to be the highest capacity road transport solution ever tested in Europe.

Massimo Marsili, managing director – Southern Europe and Morocco, XPO Logistics, said, "At XPO, we are committed to leading the industry forward by introducing innovative and sustainable transport solutions. By incorporating a new duotrailer into our distribution solution for Stellantis, we are able to reduce CO2 emissions between 25% and 30% per trip, guarantee our customer greater capacity and optimise flows between factories more efficiently.”

XPO deployed its first duotrailer in Spain in 2020 to serve multiple customers on runs between Madrid and Barcelona. A collaborative research project involving XPO, other transport companies, industry manufacturers and the Spanish Government documented the environmental benefit of using duotrailers as a commercial transport solution.
