When times are challenging, it’s easy to turn inwards and only focus on our own pressing needs.

At XPO Logistics, we also focus our attention outward – on our partners, our customers, our team members and our local communities.

It’s been a humbling experience for me to see how many charitable initiatives we’ve undertaken across Europe lately, especially amid an unprecedented pandemic.

One aspect of our charitable work that I’ve enjoyed is how we find out about these charities. The ideas come from our people, who know the causes well and advocate for them. They don’t just give back and leave. They give back and see the positive changes since they often live in the communities we’re helping.

XPO’s Community Engagement Across Europe

Over the past months, we have supported a variety of charities and associations. The following are some of the highlights, but there are many, many more I could share; some carried out at site level or even by individual teams:
In the UK, we delivered more than eight tonnes of food to 30 food banks. This is the equivalent of 10,000 meals for vulnerable people. In total, over the past seven years, our colleagues have donated close to 50,000 meals.

  • Our teams donated more than 10,000 kilograms of food to the Spanish Federation of Food Banks in Spain. This helped to feed people in 23 provinces.
  • Before the New Year holiday, our colleagues in Russia collected money to buy sweets and juice for 417 nursing home residents in Vyshny Volochek. They also provided charity assistance for the Center for the Protection of Family, Motherhood and Childhood. The centre provides comprehensive support to pregnant women in crises, single mothers and low-income families. On New Year’s Eve, our employees bought gifts and sweets for children there.
  • In Italy, we made a charitable donation to ADMO – an association focused on informing the Italian public about leukaemia, lymphomas, myeloma and other blood cancers through the donation and transplantation of bone marrow.
  • In France, colleagues from 17 sites have – just this month – collected food, hygiene and baby products for the charity Restaurants du Coeur, which provides food to those in need. The charity also participates in people’s social and economic integration and acts against poverty in general. Also, in the Paris area in France, we donated 90,000 surgical masks to local hospitals.

We are a compassionate and caring organization, and our culture's strength shines through when so many of our teams are working to support their local communities. Thank you to everyone on Team XPO for all of your outstanding work. It is appreciated, and together we can continue to move the world forward.
