XPO Logistics, a leading global provider of transport and logistics solutions, has officially launched the construction of its new transport and distribution center in Castellbisbal (Barcelona) with a ceremony presided over by Mr. Joan Playa, Mayor of Castellbisbal. The new site will have a 13,000-square-meter surface area, doubling XPO’s capacity for distribution and less-than-truckload (LTL) services and expanding its warehousing space in Catalonia.

The site, built by real estate company Montepino Logistica, will be equipped with 104 freight cross-docks, making it XPO’s largest cross-dock facility in the Iberian Peninsula. The design meets LEED energy certification standards for 100% consumption of renewable energy, as do all XPO sites in Spain.

Massimo Marsili, managing director, transport – Iberia, XPO Logistics, said, “We’re delighted to expand the scale of our transport and distribution services in Catalonia. The new facility will give us additional capacity to manage our growth and accommodate peaks in demand. The location close to our current contract logistics site will create synergies that result in even greater efficiencies for our customers.”

When the site opens in 2021, XPO will have a total surface footprint of 123,000 square meters across 10 transport and logistics sites in Catalonia, serving more than 1,800 customers. The company is the LTL market leader in Spain, with 60 sites managing the transport of over 4 million pallets per year.
