XPO Logistics Connects Spain and Morocco with Mega-trucks
XPO Logistics, a leading global provider of transport and logistics solutions, recently started operating a new mega-truck route connecting Galicia, Spain and Morocco. The trucks, 25.25 meters in length, transport raw materials from Spain to North Africa several times a week, returning with finished garments for retail sale to consumers.
XPO is a pioneer of mega-truck service in Spain, where the company was one of the first transport providers to gain government authorization for the European Modular System (EMS) mega-truck vehicles in 2016. Each XPO mega-truck can transport a maximum load of 60 tons, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 20% due to the efficiencies of greater load capacity and fuel savings.
Massimo Marsili, managing director–transport, Spain, Portugal and Morocco for XPO Logistics, said, "We are committed to making our customers' supply chains more efficient and sustainable by introducing innovative services. XPO is proud to open this new route for mega-truck service to and from Morocco, where we are one of the largest carriers, making approximately 18,000 crossings a year through the Strait of Gibraltar."
XPO has been operating in Morocco since 2011 from sites in Tangier and Kenitra, serving national and European customers in the automotive, textile and food industries. XPO’s fleet of 15 mega-trucks in Spain are utilized for the company’s customers and for its palletized goods transport network.
